Superpower Europe

The road to independence

Europe must become more independent, we hear at talk-show tables and in public debate. But what does European independence actually mean? Huttinga shows a continent already in motion, step by step shedding old dependencies on the United States and Russia, and growing into a superpower that sets its own course. A sharp and hopeful analysis of a continent in transition.

Why We Are European

Vital ideas for the world of tomorrow

Why do we feel Dutch, yet barely connected to the European continent? Huttinga traces how recent our national identity really is and offers constructive ideas for a sense of European citizenship, rooted in shared culture rather than regulation. Reviewed in de Volkskrant, NRC and Trouw.

To the Europeans of Today and Tomorrow

Three lectures by Stefan Zweig, translated and introduced by Thomas Huttinga

Three strikingly topical lectures on Europe by the Austrian writer Stefan Zweig (1881-1942), published in Dutch for the first time. Zweig proposes, among other things, a youth exchange programme and a shared European media channel. With a foreword by NRC columnist Caroline de Gruyter.
